The only way to start the day

... and please notice the best part; complete lack of people. Aaaah. Happiness.

It´s beginning to look a lot like.... ¿christmas?

Yesterday I got this feeling of winter and festivities. Which I guess you do if you start your day in a pub called Underground watching a soccer game and sipping beer. Right? And it was SNOWING in Hermosa! Look!

See, there in the background. Snowfest they called it. Snowboarders jumping around and kids marvelling at melting spots of gray snow. I´ve seen a lot of snow before, so we went to the pier and spexed around in the cold sun instead.

I was pretending to be in a movie. It would have been called "Love boat: Don´t let the sun go down on me". Or in Spanish: "El barco de amor: La puesta del sol". Or something like that.

Then we looked at Santa and Santa´s little hooker, sorry, helper.

Nobody wanted to sit in Santa´s lap, besides me, but Pabs wouldn´t let me. Went to get another beer instead.

Don´t be fooled by the palmtrees and the sunset, it was getting very chilly. So we went home, had some more beer, and played Spotify-Scrabble. Christmas can come now, I´m ready. Oh, have I mentioned that we´re going to Mexico for christmas? I have? Ok.

Beautiful day!

Hurry down to the beach!

Fogged up

This is what Hermosa feels like with this bloody fog:

And the fog horn (?) is driving me mental, it goes off every 30 seconds and sounds like a phone nobody ever picks up. Yeah, yeah, yeah I love living by the beach. Sorry for complaining. Sorry.

Another breathtaking sunset

Spent the whole day at the beach, and I mean the whole day; from a little after ten until the sun set. Listening to Ricky Gervais podcasts (HOW funny is Karl Pilkington? I need to watch An idiot abroad) and reading some Hemingway! Couldn't be better. And we get beautiful sunsets when there are some clouds, so I just couldn't leave until the show was over; although I was freezing my ass of for the last hour, even with pants, a cardigan and a huge scarf wrapped around me. Need a warm shower!

Gray, gray, gray. And a tsunami

Last night I laid awake for hours. Couldn't fall asleep. And there was this sound outside, like it was really windy, but the leaves outside our window weren't moving, so it couldn't be the wind. The more I thought the louder the sound got. And I realised it had to be the ocean. Yes, we live two minutes away so maybe I should've noticed this before, but I haven't. Anyway, in my head, the ocean was going to come swallow us all, I could even hear some people screaming if I concentrated enough. There were scenarios of a huge deadly wave, us running for the car and driving as far up as we could. In our pyjamas. I had to wake up P. "Hey. Hey. HEY!! Are you awake?" Stupid question that one, no one is ever awake before you actually ask it. He murmurs. "Can you hear that sound?" He claims it's distant traffic. What do you mean distant traffic, we live in what could be considered a little village. I make him get up and come look at the ocean from the window with me. I even open the front door to listen to the waves. I think I stand there for over ten minutes. The ocean has never been calmer. I go back to bed with earplugs. If there really is a tsunami, I think I'll have to react faster.

Super-Saturday breakfast

This day, so far has been perfect. Long walk in the morning, sunny beach view, running moms with deadly strollers, surfers in the waves (not pictured), Vanessa Da Mata on Spotify. Trying to make up for yesterday which was just one mess of a day, all I'm saying is it ended with me slamming my phone in the wall (still missing a part).

New day deserves a new breakfast. Buckwheat porridge with rasberries, goat cheese (!), brazil nuts, coconut oil and cinnamon. Has approximately 34 905 calories and tastes awesome, although it's not very photogenic. Porridge usually isn't. Now, beach and some Spanish speaking. Love it.

Happy weekendo!

This is what I was supposed to be doing this afternoon. Then I blacked out on painkillers instead. Aaaah, the joys of being a woman. Just woke up, and am too lazy to drag my body down to the beach. Hope you had a better start of your weekend! I think I'll just do nothing, I'm pretty good at that.

Crystal clear

As you can see, it's been a beautiful day...

Gloomy

It feels autumny and chilly here in Hermosa today, not a soul on the beach. I even got a couple of (tiny) raindrops on my morning walk. Which reminded me that I don't think I've seen rain since Madrid in May. A perfect excuse to visit the newly opened h&m, which I haven't seen since May either, believe it or not!

Beach bug

Today, I treated the beach like a Spanish party; I arrived late, and I stayed late.

Patricia Highsmith is THE perfect beach literature. I'm on a quest to read all her books, they're brilliant.
These cool dudes were playing Blackeyed Peas really loud to everyones delight. But at least they had artfully placed their skateboards in the sand, so I forgave them.
When the sun goes down, the runners and paddleboarders come out. Paddleboarding in the sunset looks so peaceful. Something to give a try? I'll have to convince myself to actually go into the water first...
