I just had to get some heirlooms at the market today, after being inspired by NY times magazine who had a whole feature on them this Sunday. Reading the recipe on salsa cruda, I could almost taste the ripe tomatoes, the garlic and the basil. And now I can perfectly smell the garlic on my fingers, but that kinda goes with it, right?

This is the best part. You HAVE to mash the tomatoes with your hands! That's how ripe they should be. Go a bit Nigella Lawson, all food-erotic. Or a bit Nicholson Baker when he writes sex scenes:

I know, it has nothing to do with making tomato sauce, but kneading tomatoes sort of makes your mind wander. And it was on the next page of NY times...
